Kickstart when used operates a pressure vent to make it easier to kick over the 500cc pot. The bike is easy to kickstart when used regularly, even from cold. There is also an electric starter fitted.

The front brake disc and hydraulic calliper. Brakes are good and effective on this motorcycle, and more than a match for the tyres. They are prone to seizing up and binding on the XBR500 however.
